EP 16: My Daily Framework

TRANSCRIPT

Hi, the last four videos covered the four parts of the Unstoppable Author Framework:

1. Health: Focus on your wellbeing.

2. Heart: Focus on your relationships.

3. Harmony: Focus on your mindset.

4. Hunger: Focus on your writing.

Remember that this framework is an investment in yourself and in making your dream of becoming a published picture book author a reality. To get the most out of the framework, devote the first hour of every day to it and divide it up this way:

First, Health, spend 15 minutes a day doing an exercise you enjoy.

Then, for Heart, spend 5 minutes a day connecting to a loved one with a text, a handwritten note or just a short call.

Harmony, spend 10 minutes a day meditating.

Then, spend 5 more minutes in Health making your smoothie.

And finally, spend the last 25 minutes of your hour working on your manuscript (while drinking your smoothie).

And, I know. I understand that mornings can be crazy. We have to get ready for work, we have to get the kids ready for school, take the dog for a walk. But the thing is, days only tend to get busier. If you don’t commit to completing the framework first thing in the morning, chances are you won’t complete it at all.

Now at this point you may be wondering how can I find an extra hour a day to complete the framework… well, my recommendation is to wake up an hour earlier.

And I know that this may seem excessive, but completing the framework each morning gives you three extra benefits in addition to the obvious ones:

First of all, you just feel good about yourself. Completing these small goals every day gives you a sense of accomplishment that makes you feel good about yourself and inspires you to keep going the next day, and the the next and the one after that. Also, and this may sound kind of petty, but you feel a sense of power from doing this because you think, “Man, I’ve accomplished more before 6:00 a.m. than most people accomplish in an entire day.”

Second, you align with your purpose. When you have a hunger inside of you to become a picture book author, devoting time each day to pursuing your passion makes you feel like you’re on the right path for your life. You’re not following someone else’s agenda or putting someone’s interests above your own. You’re doing exactly what you want to do just for yourself. Writing each day, even for just 25 minutes, will give you a sense of calm, peace and fulfillment.

And finally, by doing this every single morning, you increase your odds of getting published. Small steps over time lead to big results. Devoting time each day to writing gives you the opportunity to finish manuscripts, refine them and make them the best they can be. The lost hour of sleep will be forgotten once you sign a contract.

Oh, and one more thing… do the framework every single day. And by "every single day" I do mean Saturday and Sunday. Your sense of accomplishment will grow exponentially when you commit to doing the framework every single day. Plus, you’ll increase your writing time by nearly four hours every month.

Thanks so much.
