EP 2: Getting Traditionally Published

TRANSCRIPT

Hi. Thanks so much for being here and watching this video. I know your time is precious, so before you look and kind of dive into this video series, I want to make sure that these videos are right for you. So I’m going to go through a list of reasons why these videos may not be right for you.

So first these videos are not for you if you want to learn how to write picture books. Future videos are going to have information about writing, but the focus on this series is really on how to get traditionally published.

These videos will also not be for you if you want to learn how to write in rhyme. I’ve had a couple of rhyming books published, Sally Ann McFidgetbottom and The Liebrary, but I really don’t consider myself a rhyming expert. There are way better resources out there, so I would encourage you to look at those if you’re looking to learn how to write in rhyme.

This video series is not for you if you see picture book writing as a hobby. A couple of the main themes that I’ll cover in these videos… one is perseverance and the other is commitment. To me, those two are the keys to getting published. So if you see picture books as something you like to do in your spare time just for fun, that’s great, but you probably won’t get a lot of value out of these videos.

And finally, these videos are not for you if you want to self-publish or publish on a platform like KDP. I’m sure there’s tons of great information online or in bookstores about going that route, but these videos will only be helpful if you’re interested in becoming a traditionally published picture book author.

So those are kind of the key points of who these videos are not for.

In the next video I’ll outline who these videos actually are for. Thanks so much for watching.
