EP 30: Professional Critiques: The Truth
TRANSCRIPT
Hi, in my last video I talked about the importance of having a trusted and free source review your manuscripts. In addition to this, paying a professional editor can be well worth the price. Typically, professional editors will provide a summary of the changes they recommend as well as a line-by-line edit of the manuscript. Now if this isn’t an option for you financially, don’t worry about it at all. However, if this option does work for you, the investment can be extremely valuable.
And now to find an editor, simply Google, “Editors for picture books.” Then look for ones aligned with your needs. Some may specialize in rhyme. Others may specialize in humor. Be sure to look at their track record. Have they edited books that have become published? Have they had their own books published? Does their pricing seem in line with other editors? Do they work at a publishing company or house and provide freelance editing on the side? To further vet them, you can also look at the clients they’ve worked with to see if those authors have been published.
So I’d love to get your thoughts on professional critiques. Do you think they’re valuable? Let me know in the comments and, as always, thank you so much for watching. If you got any value out of this video, like it, subscribe to my channel and share the video with other aspiring picture book authors.
