EP 32: Trust Your Instincts
TRANSCRIPT
I’ve alluded to this in other videos, but, at the end of the day, when you’re done with a manuscript and ready to submit it to agents or publishers, you need to be the final judge and jury about what you submit… not your critique partner, not a paid editor, not your critique group. If you believe in a manuscript, if you’ve done everything in your power to make it as good as possible, don’t let anyone dissuade you from trying to get it published. Just go for it. Someone else will eventually believe in your story as much as you do.
Now, I mean, of course, you may experience a lot of rejection, but that’s okay. And just keep persevering. And a real-life example of this is I wrote a book called The Shy Book, and I sent it off to my list of 100 or so agents and publishers and I received nothing but form rejections or just crickets… except for one small publisher located in Wales. This publisher not only wanted to publish the book, it also wanted me to write 3 more manuscripts covering other emotions. Believe in your work. You never know where it will take you.
